It is a commonplace in the study of Luke-Acts that its author, more than any other in the New Testament, has a pronounced interest in women. A bit less often it is noted that Luke has a surprising number of stories and sayings dealing specifically with widows. Where did he come by these materials? And what did he mean to do with them?
